Recycling

Recycling Services are provided to residents by the Western Washtenaw Recycling Authority.  The Recycling Authority will pick-up recyclables at Manchester Village curbsides each Tuesday morning starting at 7:30 am.

Material Preparation Procedures:

Newspaper and Junk Mail
Newspapers and all glossy inserts are OK
Collect in a brown paper bag: secure with tape or string
Keep dry for collection

Magazines, Catalogs, Paperback Books, and Phone Books
Bag together, separate from newspaper mix
Collect in a brown paper bag; secure with tape or string

White Office Paper
Bag seperately from all other papers
Collect in a brown paper bag; secure with tape or string

Cardboard, Cereal Boxes and Paper Bags
Flatten corrugated cardboard boxes and cut into 2' x 2' squares
Flatten boxboard - such as cereal, tissue, and shoe boxes
Brown paper grocery bags, or same paper bags to be used for recycling paper
Consolidate in a paper bag separate from newspaper mix
Staples and tape are OK

Plastic Bottles
Only bottles
Bottles labeled #1(PET) or #2(HDPE)
Milk jugs, water, juice, and detergent bottles
Only bottles with a thick neck
No tubs (butter/yogurt type containers)
No motor oil containers
Rinse well and flatten; labels may be left on
Remove caps and lids from all bottles
Bag bottles or secure with a string

Glass Bottles and Jars
Clear, green and brown containers (no blue)
Rinse clean, labels may be left on
Remove caps (recycle steel caps with cans)
No plates, china, ceramics, mirrors, or windows

Tin and Aluminum Cans
Aluminium and steel cans and lids
Remove labels, rinse out, and flatten if possible
Empty aerosols are OK
No scrap metal or hangers
